Sacred Craft surfboard expo is coming to Del Mar, California this coming weekend, October 10th-11th. Sacred Craft is dedicated to the art of handmade surfboards and features a whos-who of shapers pushing the art towards the future using lessons from the past.

Psychically dialed-in surf arty store Ebb and Flow in Cardiff will be holding a Fundraiser for the Arts next Saturday, October 17th. In addition to live bands, there will be a silent auction featuring artworks and products by Ebb and Flows long list of friends including Andy and Ashley Davis, Tyler Warren and Geoff McFetridge (Solitary Arts).

Surfrider’s 25th Anniversary is this coming weekend and they are offering a 2×1 deal on tickets (today only). So if you haven’t managed to pluck down the cold hard cash yet and you want to go to the bash, today is your day.

25 Waves / 25 Artists / Celebrating 25 years of coastal conservation: As part of Surfrider’s Art of the Oceans III auction series Shepard Fairey has created an artwork to represent Jaws, the illustrious man-eating Hawaiian surf break. Nothing like a one-of-a-kind artwork, but for those of us with more modest means, Shepard Fairey is offering up 450 limited edition prints, signed and numbered, of the Jaws piece at $70/piece, still steep but not unreasonable. The prints go on sale Wednesday, Sept. 29th.

This year marks the 25th year that The Surfrider Foundation has been helping keep our oceans and beaches clean. In celebration, Surfrider is throwing the mother of all bashes, the 25th Anniversary Gala on Friday October 9th, 2009.

Drift buddy Rick Malwitz has organized an art show and online auction called Kind Lines to benefit Surf Aid International. He’s assembled a righteous collection of 23 surfy artists to contribute their work including Meegan Feori, Ned Evans, Scott Szegeski and Rick Tontz. I contributed a piece as well.

Marco Ortiz is a surfer and shaper who lives in Guadalajara, Mexico. He shapes under the name ATL Surfboards and also does contract work for the Mexican surf brand Squalo, shaping performance boards for their team riders.

Sea Shepherd’s annual Sea No Evil Art Show and silent auction is being held tomorrow Saturday, August 29th, 2009 at Riverside’s Municipal Auditorium. Doors open at 7:00pm.

The Sea No Evil art show features work from an impressive array of artist including Shepard Fairey, Maya Hayuk, Jeff Soto, Glen E. Friedman, Chivo, Dustin Ortiz andGeorge Thompson.

Chris Cutri is the director of two recent films that focus on surf culture, Riding the Wave and Hanging Five. Surfing is at the heart of both of his films but there is a secondary subject in each that decouples the films from standard travel-style surf films filled with beautiful slow-mo wave riding. We come for the surfing, but we stay for something more.
