Miami Art Basel Mural B-O-M-B

12/9

Drift didn’t make it down to Florida for the warm water waves/art feast that is Miami Art Basel, but next year it’s on for sure.  The expo is where it’s at for progressive and emerging artists, who overwhelm the city like packs of roving jackals.  The New Image Art Gallery (Los Angeles) blog has some unbelievable shots of this year’s highlight–an expansive outdoor mural project by Barry McGee, Swoon, Clare E. Rojas and Shepard Fairey, among others.

Each artist was given free reign over a generous section of warehouse wall space in the Wynwood Arts District.  Rumor has it that the pieces are permanent, so you should still be able to check them out the next time you’re in town.  They’re concentrated in an area between 2nd and 5th Avenues and NW 22nd and 28th Streets.  Regardless, get over to http://newimagegallery.blogspot.com/ for some awesome shots of the artists at work.
