Who out there likes surfing in raw sewage? Come on, you know you love the smell, the taste of it in your mouth, and you even love getting sick from it after a session. Oh? You don’t like that at all? Well neither do the folks out in Malibu and they let their voices be heard at last week’s hearing with the LA Water Quality Control Board.

Hearing for Clean Water in Malibu, Next Thursday

64 times this year, the beaches in Malibu violated water quality standards during the dry weather months. The waves at first point had to be firing on more than a few of those smelly days. While floating suprises in the lineup might keep the crowds down, I’m sure the locals would prefer to surf right hand peelers without getting sick, crowded or not. Due to pressure from the local surfing community, the Malibu Surfing Association and Surfrider’s “Clean Water at the ‘Bu” campaign, LA’s Regional Water Quality Board is holding a hearing on November 5 to finally do something about it.

3rd Annual Malibu Invitational this Weekend

Saturday & Sunday, August 29-30 the 3rd Annual Malibu Invitational will unfold at First Point, Malibu. The event benefits Lyon Herron, a young surfer from Point Dume who has battled a rare cancer known as Gardner’s Syndrome for over 13 years.
