Surfside Beach, Texas; From Beach to Landfill

In 1998, Tropical Storm Frances devastated the Galveston, Texas area and left an environmental and legal nightmare in its wake. The storm exposed how vulnerable the Texas shoreline is to erosion. Rebar, septic tanks, tires and sheet metal were torn from seaside buildings and strewn along the beach. Ida’s passing through revealed more of the same problems.
