Wheels Go 'Round
A while back Drift got word that filmmaker Mick Waters had his third film in the can. ‘Little Black Wheels’ follows on the heels of his cult favorite, “Believe”—a potent combination of powerful sentiment and unique aesthetic. The new film tells the story of a grand journey; five months in a camper van on the road in Australia, with family in tow. We dispatched Jair Bortoleto to catch Mick for an interview in between premiers, dad duties, chores on the homestead and surf sessions.
Jair Bortoleto: For starters, how did you get into surfing Mick?
Mick Waters: My start to surfing was a little different compared to most surfers’ because I didn’t live near the ocean. My brothers and I were Rugby League players and we lived out West, so when I finally got the opportunity to surf it was purely by chance. My Auntie’s boyfriend at the time offered me a ride on his old board one day at the beach—I had never even touched a board before.
